Welcome to Our Family

Holy Family Catholic School (HFCS) is preschool and elementary school operating under guidelines and regulations of the Office of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Arlington Virginia.  We are a mission of the Holy Family Parish in Dale City, Virginia. We are fully accredited by the VCEA and Office of Catholic Schools, recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

HFCS is a Roman Catholic educational institution.  We exist for the primary reason to proclaim our Lord Jesus Christ as the redeemer of the world.  We are loyal to the Magisterium of the Church.

Where children grow in wisdom.

Our Mission and Lived Experience

2009-2010 Theme for HFCS

We are a community of educators and life long learners, guided by the will of God.  We desire to become more fully human and to act in accordance with God’s divine plan for each of us.  The goals of our community are to develop faithful Catholic leaders for our world, who are life long learners, effective communicators, culturally aware, responsible decision makers and cooperative individuals.

Holy Family Catholic School endeavors to achieve our goals by being rooted in the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.  We believe that because of our traditions and sacraments, we can offer solid pedagogical practices in a faith filled environment.  Our students will excel in their future academic accomplishments beyond Holy Family School because of the foundations of faith and academics received here.

Holy Family Catholic School insists that students, teachers, administration and parents live out the Gospel message in our everyday lives.  We stress the importance of personal discipline and moral integrity, which are promoted throughout the entire curriculum.  Our student-centered learning environment teaches students to treat others with respect and dignity.

Foundation

The Holy Family Early Childhood Center began for 3-4 year olds in 1992.  Holy Family Catholic School was founded in 1995 with the opening of our first kindergarten class.  Bishop Keating granted permission for the addition of classes to the 8th grade in 1997.

In a few short years, each grade level was added to complete the preschool and K-8 track.

Our Pastor is Rev. Donald J. Planty, Jr., Mrs. Linda M. Tarabek, M.Ed. serves as principal.    Our preschool is directed by Mrs. Judi Peacott.

Our Crest and Motto

The crest is in the school colors of maroon and white, accented with gold.  The three paneled shield represents the holy trinity.  In the top left field is the traditional representation of the Holy Family by the letters "JMJ" for Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.  To the right is the ancient symbol for divine wisdom in the person of the Most Holy Spirit, a dove descending.  The bottom field is a modern representation of the lamp of knowledge, with a Trinitarian flame burning brightly toward heaven. We recognize that our earthly pursuits of academic and spiritual success must always be centered on Christ who did will of God.

Our new motto is taken from the book of Luke 2:40 (The child grew full of wisdom.  In Latin, Puer crescebat plenus sapientia) this passage refers of course, to the child Jesus, who grew in wisdom in the home of the Holy Family of Nazareth.  It applies to our children, who are led to follow the example of the child Jesus, growing in wisdom of the Holy Spirit at Holy Family Catholic School.

New Spirit Wear Store Now Open!

Our school earns a small profit on items sold. So share this link with family and friends!

Take some time and jump online to see how you can start stocking up on spirit wear.  Many items are marked with administrative approval to be worn as PE uniform items.  If something does not have that designation, then it is not approved for PE.  We have some adult size items, infant/toddler clothing, as well as stickers, hats and mugs!

There will be times during the year that the administration will call for special "spirit day" when students will be allowed to wear anything with the Falcon logo.

Click the Falcon to go to our store!

Pope Benedict XVI has declared this the "Year of the Priest" in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the death of St. John Vianney, Cures of Ares.  Our Holy Father also wants to encourage the "spiritual perfection" of our priests.  Pope Benedict XVI will declare St. John Vianney patron of all the world's priests for his "true example of a priest at the service of his flock."

We dedicate our year of prayers for our holy men, who hear the call and come to do the work of Christ among us. We also pray for all men and women in the process of discernment.  May they know the will of God in their hearts and minds.

We will increase our prayers for vocations and encourage everyone to join us in our efforts.

Please keep our holy pastor, Father Donald J. Planty, Jr. in your prayers.  We are grateful to him and the people of Holy Family for the sacrifices they make to make our school a excellent academic and spiritual place.
